My name is Vivian Swayne, and thank you for visiting my home on the web.
Currently, I am a fourth year PhD candidate in sociology, concentrating in critical criminology with certificates in social theory and women, gender, and sexuality studies. I formerly worked as a residential and transitional housing counselor and have experience working with trauma survivors and the criminal legal system. My main areas of interest are policing, sexuality, and culture, and I have publications in the Annual Review of Interdisciplinary Justice Research and Current Perspectives in Social Theory. I am currently writing my dissertation, which is an analytical tour of murals around the world that both reproduce and refuse cultural reproductions of police power. Other research projects central to my scholarship include collaborative work investigating police calls for service in the South, community listening projects about police and school safety, and arts based research about Southern queer identity. Additionally, I am a mixed media visual artist and the sousaphonist for the Knoxville Honkers and Bangers, a local adult marching band. Feel free to explore my site and contact me with any questions. |
